I’m starting it tomorrow and have heard that most people will Lose weight using it. I was just wondering if anyone here has had such an experience. I’m praying for it!!!
No. I never lost weight. It’s actually pretty awesome because most antidepressants make you GAIN weight. Welbutrin really didn’t do a whole lot for me. Every person is different though. So just monotor if it’s helping (give it time though) and keep up-to-date with your doc! And be careful as to the dose that you take (I accidentally over dosed on it one time and it REALLLY messed me up) Congratulations on seeking help and getting hooked up with some meds! They work wonders. Good luck!
I have taken wellbutrin, but i never really lost weight on it,
my doc told me it was a possibility i could lose weight while taking it. i think it depends on the person and there body.
good luck!
Many people lose weight initially and then gain much more starting a few months later. I am ones of these ‘lucky’ ones. I lost about 6 lbs initially and proceeded to gain 50 lb even though I exercised lots and ate no differently than before I was on the drug. I kept the weight on, unfortunately, until I switched over to a new supplement (Empowerplus, you can find it at http://www.truehope.com) when the Wellbutrin stopped working.
Be careful with this drug, it can be very painful to come off of when you do that and the protracted withdrawal later on (when the drugs stored in your tissues start to release) can be worse than any initial symptom for which it is taken. In response to someone who has stated that Wellbutrin is NOT known for its side effects, I wish you could know the people I’ve known who have suffered through extremely difficult withdrawal from this particular drug. Wellbutrin Withdrawal Syndrome (flulike symptoms beginning about 10 days after last dose) is only the beginning. Some do not experience these things, some do.
I wish you the best and suggest you also look at other alternatives.
I’ve been on Wellbutrin for about 8 years. Out of 19 psych meds, it is the one I have responded most to with the least side effects. (I take it in combination with other meds.) I have nothing but good things to say about this one. When I very first started it, I lost my appetite but this didn’t last long. I didn’t actually lose weight from it, but that was fine because I was at a good weight to start with.
Wellbutrin is the only antidepressant I know of that is NOT known for it’s withdrawal side effects. With all others I have been on, I had to wean off to avoid unpleasant effects, but the one time i went off of Wellbutrin I was able to do so without any problem at all (after years of being on it.) I only went off of it because I had hit a major low and stopped all treatment …foolishly. I went back on it when I resumed meds and have done well on it ever since.
The good things about this medication are it has a low risk of weight gain and sexual side effects. Both are very common with most antidepressants.
I did 10 years ago. I also lost the craving for cigarettes. The wellbutrin was prescribed for depression, not for quitting smoking.
I lost weight, but I am pretty sure it had to do with finally having the desire/energy/will to put down the sandwich and get off the couch.

No. The only side effect I had was dry mouth.
